Frustration Is a Function of Our Expectations

Run Time: 9:48.  Gospel: Lk 24:13-35.

When we become frustrated, or discouraged, it is because the reality of what happens in life does not measure up to what we are expecting.

Our life, dear friends, as Christians, is a quest.  Our mission is to defend and extend Christ’s kingdom on earth.  Our Quest is to bring ourselves and as many others as we can safely to the promised land of heaven.  And if that’s how we approach life, then our perspective changes.

I suppose the great comfort is that by walking with Christ on the road, life becomes a little bit less complicated.  Walking with Christ means making an ongoing effort to grow in our prayer life and sacramental life.  It means an ongoing effort to understand the scriptures, to understand our faith, to understand different things going on around us – and not just about faith, and religion, but the world as a whole, as God’s creation.  And it means an ongoing effort to be like Christ in our own lives.  Striving for excellence in our work and in our recreation.  To become dependable in our character, to become people of our word.  And yes, to become faithful to the point of self-sacrificing our own wants and desires for the good of others.  To pray, to follow Church teaching, and to imitate Christ in our daily lives.
