Run Time: 15:11. Gospel: Mk 10:2-16.
What does it mean to be a human person, in the image and likeness of God, in light of the mystery of ‘male and female He created them’?
What does it mean to talk about marriage and family – and there is an immense degree of confusion. There is a very broad misunderstanding of these very basic things – and it’s not ‘out there’, it is ‘in here.’
Very shortly there will be a gathering of bishop’s in Rome, a second meeting of a synod for bishops to examine the issues of marriage and family, to discuss the state of the family and the challenges present to it. That it is essential that we get this conversation right. And that we begin from a point of clear understanding because everything else flows in a certain sense – every other human relation flows from this understanding of the family. From that first fact that we are presented with in the book of Genesis, “It is not good that man should be alone.” From the things that Adam recognized when he looked at Eve and said, “This at last is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones,” of his very nature. And for which he yearned and longed. And at the heart of his being there is a need. And everything else, as I say, flows from this understanding.
