Charity Is…

Run Time: approximately 10 and a half minutes. Gospel: Mt 22:1-14.

“If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

Who Are God’s People?

Run Time: approximately 9 and a half minutes.
Gospel: Mt 15:21-28.

There is God, there are His people… and that’s it.

Now due to the sin of Adam, we have separated ourselves from God and each other. We think of ‘us people’ and ‘those people’ – and sometimes those people aren’t described with much flattery. … So how do ‘us’ and ‘those’ become a people?

A Sure Remedy

Run Time: approximately 6 minutes.

Gospel: Jn 1:29-34.

I apologize for the audio problems which are ongoing from last week, but it is still possible to understand the Deacon as he explains what the cause for the spiritual aliments that beset us is and what their surest remedy is-

“We were made and designed for life. We Christians understand that [this desire] is for eternal life. Yet in the business of life we sometimes only live a shadow of a life.”

Run Time: 08:48. Gospel: Lk 18: 1-8

All of our efforts at help are grounded in the Lord’s help. When we forget that we get into trouble. To do it on our own was what got us “tossed” out of the Garden of Eden. And so, while we are called to be His instruments, it is God’s power and grace that is delivered.

Have You Heard Jesus’ Voice?

Run Time: 06:06.

Gospel: Jn 10:27-30.

‘There are none so deaf as those who will not hear.’ And so many times I have heard others exclaim – in honest hunger, ‘Show me Jesus!’ Yet Jesus is always about to be seen and heard. If I want to hear Jesus in the quiet of my heart, can you imagine that the business of my life could extinguish that gentle voice? Can you imagine that my anger with the injustice of the world and with wrongs done to me, that it could blind my vision to the ever-present gentle and merciful Jesus? If only we could practice gratitude. If we could practice taking the time when we can really listen.

God’s Compassion

Run Time: 09:22. Gospel: Mk 7:31-37.

Thus says the LORD:
Say to those whose hearts are frightened:
Be strong, fear not!
Here is your God,
he comes with vindication;
with divine recompense
he comes to save you.
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened,
the ears of the deaf be cleared;
then will the lame leap like a stag,
then the tongue of the mute will sing.
Streams will burst forth in the desert,
and rivers in the steppe.
The burning sands will become pools,
and the thirsty ground, springs of water.

Daily Report

Run Time: 06:18. Gospel: Mk 6:7-13.

At the end of these instructions and preparations we hear the whole conclusion in just two sentences: “So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil main who were sick and cured them.”
It just hit me how matter-of-factly all this was reported. Just like a daily work report… It’s made to sound so common, but there’s so much more grand and divine going on.
