The Act of Faith

O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he shall come to judge the living and the dead.   I believe these and all the truths that the holy Catholic Church teaches, because you have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.   Amen.

The Act of Hope

The Act of Charity

O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because you are all-good and worthy of all love.   I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you.   I forgive all who have injured me and ask pardon of all whom I have injured.   Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.   May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:   and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruin of souls.   Amen.

  • V.   Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  • R.   Have mercy upon us.

Angel of God

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here.   Ever this day (night) be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule and guide.   Amen.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.   Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful, O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.   Amen

The Prayers of the Rosary

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.   He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.   Amen.

The Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.   Thy Kingdom come.   Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.   And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.   And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.   Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death.   Amen.

(back to the Angelus)

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.   Amen.

The Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of hell.   Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

The Hail Holy Queen & Concluding Prayer

Hail holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.   To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.   To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.   Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us.   And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.   O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

  • V. Pray for us O holy Mother of God.
  • R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God, Whose only-begotten Son by His life, death, and resurrection, purchased for us the rewards of eternal life: grant, we beseech Thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.   Through the same Christ our Lord.   Amen.

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart; in reparation for sin, for the salvation of all men and women, for the reunion of Christians and in particular for the intentions recommended by our Holy Father this month.   Amen.

Baronius’ Prayer to Saint Philip Neri

Look down from heaven, Holy Father, from the loftiness of that mountain to the lowliness of this valley, from that harbor of quietness and tranquility to this calamitous sea. And now that the darkness of this world hinders no more those benignant eyes of thine from looking clearly into all things, look down and visit, O most diligent keeper, this vineyard which thy right hand planted with so much labour, anxiety, and peril. To thee then we fly, from thee we seek for aid: to thee we give our whole selves unreservedly. Thee we adopt for our patron and defender: undertake the cause of our salvation, protect thy clients. To thee we appeal as our leader, rule thine army fighting against the assaults of the devil. To thee, kindest of pilots, we give up the rudder of our lives; steer this little ship of thine, and placed as thou art on high, keep us off all the rocks of evil desires, that with thee for our pilot and our guide we may safely come to the port of eternal bliss.   Amen.

Brief Examination at Night

From Rev. James Socias “Handbook of Prayers”, 6th ed.

Make a brief examination of conscience before going to bed at night.   Two or three minutes will suffice.

  • Place yourself in the presence of God, recognizing his strength and your weakness.   Tell him: “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”
  • Ask your guardian angel for light to acknowledge your defects and virtues:   What have I done wrong? What have I done right? What could I have done better?
  • Examine your conscience with sincerity:
Did I often consider that God is my Father? Did I offer him my work? Did I make good use of my time? Did I pray slowly and with attention? Did I try to make life pleasant for other people? Did I criticize anyone? Was I forgiving? Did I pray and offer some sacrifices for the Church, for the pope, and for those around me? Did I allow myself to be carried away by sensuality? By pride?
  • Make an act of contrition (below), sorrowfully asking our Lord’s pardon.
  • Make a specific resolution for tomorrow:
    • To stay away from certain temptations.
    • To avoid some specific faults.
    • To exert special effort to practice some virtue.
    • To take advantage of occasions for improvement.
  • Pray three Hail Marys to the Virgin Mary, asking for purity of heart and body.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love.   I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.   Amen.
